Environmental, Cultural and Recreational Park

Spanish (Beginning)

This unique park brings surrounding communities together by providing a free and open recreational space for community members and promoting an appreciation for nature and the environment in addition to art, music, and technology. Participants will have the opportunity to work on environmental projects and/or gardening projects and learn about plants and ecosystems of Costa Rica. Students with an advanced level of Spanish may have additional opportunities to assist, design, and run workshops for youth, depending on availability and the needs of the organization.

Butterfly Garden

Spanish (Beginning)

Founded in 1992, this butterfly farm is located on the Rio Torres bio-corridor in central San Jose. They breed approximately 20 different butterfly species and care for the surrounding gardens to maintain the habitat. Their mission is to operate an eco-sustainable business that provides social, environmental, educational, cultural and economic benefits for the community. Participants will have a variety of opportunities including working in the greenhouse, nursery or laboratories, trail and park maintenance, feeding larvae and butterflies, social media marketing, and administrative or customer service assistance.
